Kayla Kobiela

Festival of Trees

Volunteer position: Secretary of board, character enhancement

Kayla Kobiela’s connection to the Festival of trees began in her childhood. “As a child I always loved coming to the Western Development Museum. My parents would bring me to the Festival of Trees – it was our nostalgic way to get into the Christmas spirit.

When she found out the Festival was looking for volunteers, she realized it was ideal for not just herself but also her business, The Enchanted Garden Character Company. Through it, Kayla brings the beloved characters of children’s favourite stories to life.

She was Olaf the first year she volunteered. It was so well received, Kayla and her characters have become a staple at the Festival. Because of the winter connection, Olaf, Anna and Elsa are ever-present along with other beloved characters, including the jolly old elf himself, Santa. Her characters are such a hit that the Festival built her a 16-foot castle to house them!

As a business owner, Kayla loves giving back to the community. “With proceeds going to the Foundation, the Festival of Trees is really important to us.”
